The trial of those who tried to remove Tshisekedi from power will take place in Ndolo prison.
The Supreme Military Court on June 7, 2024 is trying 53 people who tried to remove President Félix Tshisekedi Tshilombo from power in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
This attempt which took place in the early hours of May 19, 2024 was led by Congolese Christian Malanga who had the citizenship of the United States of America. Before he was shot, his fighters attacked the home of the Minister of Economy, Vital Kamerhe, and the office of President Tshisekedi.
The spokesperson of the RDC army, Gen Maj Sylvain Ekenge, announced that more than 50 people who attempted this operation were arrested, promising that they will be prosecuted by the justice system. Among the defendants are Benjamin Zalman Polun who lived in the United States, Marcel Malanga who was Malanga's son, Taylor Christa Thomson who is Marcel's friend and Jean-Jacques Wondo; One-Congo was a consultant to the RDC's investigative unit.
Military prosecutors charge them with crimes including terrorist activities, illegal possession of weapons and ammunition, attempted murder, complicity, murder and support for terrorist activities.
The trial will take place at the Ndolo military prison in Kinshasa, where all of them have been detained since their arrest.
