After many years of caring for patients, Dr. Shoshana Ungerleider, a 44-year-old internist, echoed the words that are often repeated by patients who are about to take their last breath before giving birth.
She pointed out that when many of her friends were about to leave, they used to say
"I didn't spend enough time with the people I love";
'I worked so hard that I neglected my life';
'I let fear guide my decisions';
'If only I had been braver in times of trouble or
luck'; 'I care too much about the future and neglect the present'.
Dr. Shoshana Ungerleider, said that living
a healthy life means realizing that at some point it will end.
She said, “Feeling that there will be a time
when life will end makes you live for now because this is the only one you
have. That's true for all of us. In our lives right now is the only time we
have.”
She said that in order for people to avoid
experiencing regret in their final moments, they should realize that they do
not know the time of their end and what they have may not be enough.
She said that one should always ask oneself
important questions such as how to use one's time effectively, what is
important in life and so on.
"Another thing is to think that there
will come a time when you will be dead whether you are 20, 50 or 80 years old.
That will make you better because you will live a life that has meaning and
purpose."
Dr. Shoshana Ungerleider advises young
people to eat a healthy diet, exercise regularly, and avoid smoking and other
harmful activities.
"And that will make you see the big
meaning in the little things that make people happy."
Dr. Shoshana Ungerleider points out that
happiness should be a personal choice.
