SUDAN: Refugees run out of food and start eating grass
A number of Sudanese refugees who fled the
ongoing fighting in Darfur state have reportedly started eating grass due to
lack of food.
It was announced by the United Nations
refugee agency in this country, WHO, which says that these refugees are at risk
of severe hunger.
The department says that apart from the
fact that the war is raging, on the other hand, the heavy rains that have been
falling for days have disrupted the supply of food that had been found, causing
some to go out of their way to eat grass.
Eddie Rowe, head of the World Food Program
(WFP), told Reuters that thousands of tons of aid have been blocked at the Tina
border between Sudan and Chad, due to the fighting.
This is said to have caused severe hunger,
and those who were able began to weep for grass.
The UN report shows that Sudan is the first
in the region to be at risk of famine since the war between the government
forces and the rival Rapid Support Force (RSF) last year.
