Hon. Eugene Barikana, a former member of Rwandan parliament, has now been sentenced to two years in prison.
The case was
filed by the Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia on Thursday, May 23,
2024.
Eugene
Barikana, who did not deny that he had been charged with unlawful possession of
a weapon, pleaded guilty on Thursday, but pleaded guilty to the charge of the
court. The prosecution asked the judge to convict the accused and sentenced him
to two years in prison.
After the
Supreme Court of Nyarugenge heard both sides' announcements and the sentence of
the accused, the judge concluded the case and will read the court's decision

Article 70 of the Arms Act states that anyone who possesses weapons illegally, who changes weapons symbols in any way commits a crime. If convicted, he shall be sentenced to a term of imprisonment of less than one (1) year but not more than two (2) years, the fine of Rwf 1 million is not less than Rwf 1 million, but not more than Rwf 2 million or only one of these penalties.
